What do I do if I purchased a product that has expired from a retailer? Shelf life?
Our nut butters have a one-year shelf life from the manufacturing date and each lid is marked with a best by date.
We don’t recommend consuming the product after its best by date because there may be variances in consistency, taste and overall quality of the product. Because natural nut butters do naturally separate, we feel they taste BEST if used in the first 6 months. The store is responsible for removing soon-to-be expired (or already expired) products from the shelves.
If you purchased an expired product at a store, please return to the store where you purchased. They should offer a full refund or at the very least, store credit. Also, please feel free to let us know so we can contact the store!
Is the nut butter creamy or chunky?
Each Blend is a little different! Our “creamiest” versions are the Plain Jane Creamy versions, Maple, and Blizzard. Although, because of our small batch and homemade approach, there are tiny little bits/grit. It will not be super smooth and globular like the processed peanut butters.
If you are a Chunky fan, Plain Jane Chunky and Chilin Chocolate are very chunky!
The rest of the blends have a creamy base, but have either added seeds/dried fruits which give it a consistency of its own!
Do you add sugar, additives, or palm oils?
We do not have any straight up sugar in the facility! We do not add sugar directly to any products. The only sugar in the products is from ingredients themselves , such as maple syrup, honey, chocolate, and/or dried fruits.
Saratoga Peanut Butter Company takes pride in not adding palm oils, refined sugars, or preservatives. All products are low to no sodium, have no palm oils, and are low in sugar (if there is any at all).
Why is there oil on the top of my jar?
Products we ship online and sell at our markets and festivals were just made, so oil separation is nonexistent or very minimal. We ship FRESH Monday-Friday and have a very fast turn around time. We have all products in stock online as well.
In the case that you purchased a jar from a retail store that is a bit more separated, do not fret!!!
Natural peanut butter doesn’t contain anything unnatural to interrupt the natural phenomenon of separation. It is actually a good thing! It is the peanut oil from the peanuts themselves! It is NOT added.
If you pour the oil out, your peanut butter won’t taste as good in the long run, and it’ll dry out much more quickly. Don’t be afraid of a little peanut oil!
If your jar is noticeably separated, push a butter knife down through the nut butter paste into the oils. “Stab” through to the bottom and make holes to give the oil a chance to get back into the product. Stab and stir! It takes some elbow grease, but it works!
The nut butter will start to combine back into the oils and back to it’s original state.
TIP : STORE YOUR JAR UPSIDE DOWN ON OCCASSION so that the oils are not always going up to the top of the jar, which can eventually leave you with a dry bottom. Just make sure the lid is on tight!
How do I store my nut butter? Do I need to refrigerate?
The choice if YOURS! We always recommend giving your new jar a thorough stir with a study butter knife to start off with a well blended jar of product.
After that, feel free to store your jar at room temperature so that it is easier to spread or put it in the refrigerator if you think it will take you more than a couple of months to consume; this will keep your nut butter tasting fresh longer and slow down the separation process if the jar is going to sit untouched for longer periods of time. If you dig into your jar weekly, just always give it a quick stir and you shouldn’t have any issues.
Personally, the nuts over here at Saratoga PB leave ours at room temperature and go through the jar within a few months. Yum. (or days to be honest :/ )
TIP: We hear that refrigerating our Blizzard makes it taste like cookie dough – minus all of the nasty sugars and junk!
Are the nut butters Soy Free/Gluten Free/Vegan/Dairy Free/Non GMO and what ALLERGENS should I be aware of?
All of our products are Gluten Free, NON-GMO and No Palm Oils. Many of our nut butters are vegan and dairy free as well, please see individual product details for more information.
All are soy free except our dark chocolate blends, Chilin Chocolate and Trifecta. We do not add soy lecithin, but it is in the dark chocolate itself.
When looking into a product on the website, make sure to visit the product page which lists the ingredients so you can see the facts in more detail for your specific concerns.
Our products are manufactured on shared equipment. We do take care to run almond butters on different days than peanut butters. All equipment is cleaned and sanitized before running and when allergens are present.
We suggest making the decision for yourself if an allergy is present and depending in the severity of your allergy. You know best!!!
**** Allergen Statement: Saratoga Peanut Butter Company products are made in a facility that also processes PEANUTS, TREE NUTS (almonds), and SEEDS (flax seeds, pumpkin, and chia seeds).
Why does my jar seem a little different than last time consistency wise?
A lot of the steps taken to make Saratoga Peanut Butter Company’s products is by hand and in small batches. For the most part, things are quite consistent.
Occasionally, our process can yield a slight inconsistency. Each jar follows a strict recipe and has the same amount of each ingredient, but can yield minor variations because of drier raisins, moisture levels in the nuts, or more moist blueberries for example. You may find slight variation with the chunkiness and thickness from jar to jar. Please remember, it’s a jar made with love every. single. time.
Why do I see white in my Chillin Chocolate and/or Trifecta?
Are you seeing tiny white balls in the dark chocolate blends, It is because there is cocoa butter in the chocolate . In the colder months when the natural oils start to separate, you may notice the cocoa butter solidify and turn white.
This is naturally occurring and is still perfectly good. Mix back in and the friction created allows it to melt right back into the butter!
Are the peanuts, nuts, and seeds roasted or raw? Where do they come from?
All peanuts, nuts, and seeds, are roasted. One of the reasons we roast our nuts and seeds is to keep them free from pathogens.
All of our nuts and seeds are from the USA!!! They are Non-GMO, unpasteurized and roasted. We source our nuts and seeds from various farmers in our country that demand a high standard of quality.
Are your nuts tested?
Yes, the nuts come in from our suppliers with a Certificate of Analysis. Our nuts are tested for E. Coli, , Aflatoxins, Salmonella, Listeria, Staph, Yeast, Mold, and Coliform.
Is your packaging BPA Free?
YES! We use a PET food safe plastic that is BPA-free and does not contain phthalates. We use the plastic jars over glass because we had a lot of issues initially with the weight of the glass and frequent breakage that occurred in the shipping process.
